    Digital Honey Color Meter

    Portable digital color grader

The color grader combines accuracy and ease of use in an ergonomic, portable design and utilizes an advanced optical system.

The combination of sophisticated engineering ensures precise photometric readings every time.

The portable device determines honey color and consistently delivers accurate photometric results.

The exclusive cuvette locking system ensures that the cuvette is inserted into the measuring cell in the same position every time.

Calibration to 100% transmittance using a glycerin standard
    Automatic shut-off
Digital color analysis of honey from 0 - 150 mm Pfund

    Key Features

    • The instrument automatically switches off after 10 minutes of inactivity in measurement mode.
This helps conserve battery power if the device is accidentally left on.

    • The battery status indicator shows the remaining battery level.

    • Error messages on the display warn of various issues, such as
missing limit, excessively high zero value, or too low standard.

    • The cooling lamp indicator ensures accurate measurements by preventing overheating
of the tungsten lamp. It appears before a reading to allow components time
to cool down, thereby maintaining the desired wavelength.

    Importance of Use

The most important factor in classifying commercial honey is its color, which is expressed in millimeters (mm) Pfund by comparison with a glycerin standard.

Honey naturally occurs in many shades, from light straw yellow to amber and on to dark amber or nearly black with reddish tones. The color depends on the flowers from which the bees collected nectar and can therefore be used to identify the botanical origin of the honey.

Over time, honey may darken or change color depending on storage and production conditions.

The color meter measures honey color directly within the range of 0 - 150 mm Pfund. The instrument uses a tungsten lamp together with a narrowband interference filter that isolates wavelengths of 420 nm and 525 nm. Samples are analyzed in a square cuvette with a 10 mm light path and compared with a glycerin standard. The result is displayed directly as mm Pfund based on the percentage of light transmittance. The advanced optical system reduces subjective assessment and ensures precise and reproducible measurements.
